“I want to say thank you to everyone who helped me become who I am…
First of all, I want to thank my students, who have taught me the most important: the ability to listen, be more sensitive and attentive to the peculiarities of music education, value freedom and creativity, and be more flexible…
Parents who trust me their children…
My colleagues who accompanied me at all stages and continue to do this…
My family and friends for their patience…
My teachers, who gave me knowledge…
The Life, which gave me an opportunity to create…
The Music, which gave me the whole world…”
One cannot become a pianist, composer, teacher, author of books, and producer in one day; this interlacing of fateful paths has been accompanying Ekaterina Donchenko since her childhood. Her determination, her desire to conquer new musical Everests and constant work on herself have taken her from the Kherson Music College, where she got her first music background as accompanist and piano teacher, to Barcelona. In the capital of Gaudi, Ekaterina did not keep down her enthusiasm and began to study the ins and outs of Spanish education: Ekaterina graduated from the Conservatori Superior de Música del Liceu and took courses to improve pedagogical skills at the University of Barcelona.
Ekaterina Donchenko’s creativity is a real maze to the fabulous world of music, that leads to the most paradisiacal corners of imagination. Her repertoire cannot be attributed to one genre: the breadth of Ekaterina’s talents can be easily expressed by her rich discography – a look at the creations of our great ancestors through the eyes of an actual interpretation by the accompaniment of different musical styles.
Among Ekaterina Donchenko’s musical creations, special attention is drawn to the “Trio” project. At first glance, this is a classical piano trio (violin, violoncello, piano), but every musical piece by Ekaterina has its own secret. “Trio” is a special interpretation of the pianist’s musical compositions, in which epochs merge – classical instruments and modern sound, which create a unique style and character.
In addition to her albums, Ekaterina participated in the recording of the soundtrack to the “Madeinusa” film directed by Claudia Llosa (2005, Peru-Spain), and worked as a co-composer on the “Moses” documentary directed by Fran Guijarro (San Francisco).
Music education and pedagogical activity, in particular, are crucial to Ekaterina Donchenko’s creative life.
Ekaterina is the author of sheet music for piano that was designed and adapted for the audience of different levels of preparation and goals. Among them, you can find both transcriptions of famous classical masterpieces, as well as the works of the author herself, including teaching aids for beginning musicians.
In the framework of her educational project, Ekaterina has also developed a special method of intuitive music education for children. Its underlying principle is studying music in an easy and understandable form, where a child plays the role of the main character of his or her education process.
Ekaterina Donchenko’s pedagogical activity has resulted in the foundation of the Center for Musical Creativity EKD in Barcelona, whose goal is to bring talents to light, to reveal artistic styles and to identify the ideas of future musicians with the help of modern technologies and an innovative approach to individual and collective education.
Ekaterina’s main life principle is the desire to share her love for music and make the learning process easy and accessible to everyone because the world of music is always happy to embrace each of us.
